Medieval Europe Self-Designed Project (SDP)
Assignment Sheet - 75 points This is your opportunity to teach me about something related to Medieval Europe! Pick a topic YOU are interested in that is related to Medieval Europe such as Medieval fashion, food, art, weapons, armor, castles, etc. Conduct research to find new, detailed information about your topic. It must be information that we did NOT already learn in class. Present the facts you learn in a creative way to teach me about your topic. I do NOT want an essay! For ideas on how to present your topic creatively, see the reverse side. Your Self-Designed Project requirements are as follows: Research Information – 40 points
Creative Presentation of Research Topic – 25 points
Bibliography – 10 points
Remember: The goal of your SDE is to present information on something NEW that you learned. Instead of putting the information in essay format (BORING!), present your learning in a creative format. ALSO remember that your SDE must provide a substantial amount of information--75 points worth! ***If you decide to partner up with someone for a presentation, you must get permission from me before you start!*** Your final Narrative (creative short story) is due next Thursday, November 3. The purpose is to entertain your fellow classmates with a 3-5 page fictional short story that follows a plot structure. The final paper must be typed, printed and brought to class on November 3. Please follow proper type-written guidelines including a Title Page, black ink, 12-point font, double -spacing, one-inch margins. Below are the criteria I will be using to grade your paper:
Narrative Criteria
If you are interested in medieval castles, you can earn extra-credit by making a model of a medieval castle. Up to 15 points (possibly more) will be given based on how well you follow the directions and how much creativity and effort you put into your castle. You may work with a partner. The guidelines are as follows:
You can make your model out of food (cake, brownies, rice krispie treats, graham crackers, pretzels, etc.) Please let me know if and when you plan to bring a food castle that you would like to present and then share with the class, so I can plan accordingly. In our lesson on Direct and Indirect Characterization, we imagined what it would be like if people walked around wearing t-shirts that directly stated what kind of person they are. For fun (and extra credit points) students can make a Direct Characterization t-shirt for themselves! T-shirts are due on Friday, October 28th. Here are the details:
1) Find a t-shirt that is too small for you, but clean and still in good condition - it does NOT have to be white. 2) With fabric pain, markers, iron-ons, or embroidery decorate your shirt with the following:
Field Trip Details:
I am excited to announce that our Core class has the opportunity to go on a field trip to see Sacramento Theatre Company’s unusual and hilarious rendition of Cinderella on Thursday, December 8, at 11:00. This is an entertaining performance that students and parents alike are certain to enjoy! Because we have so many classes attending, it will be an all-Sutter audience. We will take sack lunches and walk to the theater which is located at 1419 H Street. Weather permitting, we will eat our lunches in their large courtyard. In case of rain, the theater has offered for us to eat lunch in the lobby. Permission Slips and Cost: Tickets are $20.00 each for both students and adults. Because the theatre requires payment in advance, we must collect payments early. Please complete the attached permission slip and return it to me with $20.00 in cash by Thursday, October 27, 2016. Unfortunately, Sutter is unable to accept personal checks for this field trip; however, cash, cashier’s checks, and money orders are acceptable. Chaperones Needed: I will need several parent chaperones to accompany us on the trip. Chaperones must have approved paperwork on file in the office. If you would like to chaperone and if you have already completed the approval process, please e-mail me as soon as possible. I will accept chaperones in the order in which I receive the e-mails. If you have any questions regarding the trip, please e-mail me at [email protected]. I am looking forward to sharing this fun and educational experience with everyone! |
